I can do it!

My girl with her precious collection of socks and pigs ears - oh, and I think there's a bee in there too. This is my trial run at an internet cafe - got to make sure I can upload pictures from camera to blog. I'll need to know how to do this in PARIS and MALLORCA and LONDON!

Can't believe it's only three sleeps till I take off! Yippee!!!!!! Eeeeeeek!!!!!!!

Perspective

It is impossible to concentrate. When you know your child is on the operating table, anaesthetised, tube down her throat, and soon to have seven teeth hacked and yanked from her mouth, how can you? You look at your watch again. Wonder which tooth he’s up to, the oral surgeon who casually told you in his rooms about the nerve that runs close to the extraction site, the one that controls taste and sensation in the lips. You feel guilty that you didn’t take her to the hospital yourself. Even though her father was happy to take time off and she was happy either way. What a journey you go on when you write a book! It’s an adventure with twists and turns, unexpected hazards, exhilarating moments, excruciating moments and some delightful surprises. And I’m not talking about the plot. I’m talking about the writing process. Oh, and there’s lots of walking for miles and miles towards the horizon – which plays tricks on you and recedes instead of getting closer. When you start out, you don’t realize what you’ve taken on.
